"My story - I believe that everyone has the right to have a place to call home, a place of safety and warmth. I have over the past two years volunteered in my local town assisting with the provision of hot home cooked meals in a welcoming place for homeless or people in need to rest and chat. The conversations I have had with some of our customers have stimulated a recognition that there is a desperate need to raise the plight of homeless people. Ironically my career is that of an Estate Agent, I see first hand the struggles of people fighting to get their first home or find somewhere to rent. These struggles are real for many people but are magnified for those unfortunate enough to suffer losing their home or stability through relationship breakdowns, addictions, traumas of past experiences to name a few. Their situation a result of a combination of wrong choices and unfortunate circumstances.
The Lantern Trust is my chosen local charity attending to the needs of customers who find themselves in difficult and challenging situations. I have asked myself on many occasions what is it like to walk the path of a person with no home, a nest; no connection with others or no inclusion with society or surroundings, in essence an outcast, unwanted and unnecessary. These thoughts have led me to a place of where there is truly only one way to find out and that is to experience it for myself. Of course I understand how fortunate I am that this is a short lived experience and I will go home at the end of it; however if I can give a voice to those who go unheard it will be with worth it. I will travel to London from Weymouth to London by train, say goodbye to my family and with no resources apart from a mobile phone to upload my daily videos and a basic kit consisting of a sleeping bag and a few small items. I aim to survive for 31 days. In this time I will post a daily video clip of my journey. My deepest hope is to witness connections of our lost friends, perhaps see their belief in purpose and experience some kindness from individuals and organisations. I hope to come away with an idea how the failures in this sector of our society can be avoided. Any money donated will be very welcome, if I can ask your generosity to go further and make a longer-term positive impact by asking you to simply share, share my videos and your thoughts with your friends and colleagues through which ever social media platforms you have access to. Anything to focus minds on this desperate plight of our fellow friends; situations that no one in our society we live in should find themselves in." ,
